Dorothy Eakes Osborn November 14, 1937 – July 6, 2014

Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Eakes Osborn, age 76 of Madison, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at home. Dorothy Eakes Osborn (Dottie) was born on Sunday, November 14, 1937 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Bud and Johnie Mae Eakes. She was the eldest child in her family, followed by Charles, Peggy, David, and Gene. After graduating from high school, Dottie’s favorite teacher, Mrs. Jennings, encouraged her to take a secretarial test at Redstone Arsenal. She was hired and worked there until she transferred to NASA. There, Dottie met Lamar Osborn and they were married later that year. They welcomed their son, Chris, in 1968. Dottie spent 25 years working for NASA, then took early retirement to help Lamar run their family business, Osborn Sign Company. Dottie became a loving grandmother to Faith in 2000, then again in 2003 to grandson Maddox. She remained working with Lamar until health problems necessitated her leaving. Dottie was cared for lovingly by her husband and two sweet angels, Angie and Candy. Dottie loved them and was so grateful for all they did for her. Dottie passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at home with her husband. She was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and was loved and will be greatly missed by them.

Arrangements were handled by Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will received friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday. A service followed at 7:00 PM in Spry’s Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to Children’s Hospital, Southern Family Care Hospice, or your choice of charity.
