Open houses ready student families, teachers for Aug. 5 opening

MADISON – Open House on Madison campuses will introduce student families to classroom environments for the 2014-2015 school year.

Students in Madison City Schools will report to class on Aug. 5.

Principal Rodney Richardson describes Horizon Elementary School’s open house on July 31 as a “brief meet-and-greet.” Kindergartners can visit from 3 to 4 p.m.; grades 2, 4 and 6 from 5 to 6 p.m.; and grades 1, 3 and 5 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Horizon families can park and ride a shuttle from Miller Plaza from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Principal Jamie Hill and assistant principal Brian Givens, both new to Columbia Elementary School, will attend the “Back-to-School Bash” on July 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Students can enjoy popcorn and snow cones. “Kindergarten 101” will orient new families at 3 p.m.

Classroom presentations are planned for Columbia first grade and developmentally delayed students from 4 to 4:15 p.m.; second-graders, 4:20 to 4:35 p.m.; third-graders, 4 to 4:55 p.m.; fourth-graders, 5 to 5:15 p.m.; fifth-graders, 5:20 to 5:35 p.m.; and sixth-graders, 5:40 to 5:55 p.m.

Liberty Middle School has two options for schedules and fees, principal Nelson Brown said. With the traditional option, eighth-grade families can pick up schedules and pay fees on July 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and seventh-grade on July 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With the online option, students can view classes with iNow at gateway.madisoncity.k12.al.us starting July 23 and also pay fees through Aug. 4.

An eighth-grade parents meetings will be held July 23 at 5 p.m. Seventh-grade parents will meet on July 24 at 5 p.m. Liberty Open House is scheduled for Aug. 12 at 6 p.m.

Rainbow Elementary School will host Open House on July 31 from 3 to 6 p.m. All students with last names A-M can attend from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Students with last names N-Z are scheduled for 4:45 to 6 p.m.

Open House at West Madison Elementary School will be held on July 31. Grades K, 3, 4 and 6 will visit from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Grades 1, 2 and 5 can attend from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
