New teachers, staff prepared for classes at Madison elementary

MADISON – Madison Elementary School will open the 2014-2015 with a new principal and plans for Curriculum Nights later in August.Principal Melissa Mims will greet students in grades 1-6 when Madison elementary has its first day of classes on Aug. 5. Most recently, Mims worked for six years as assistant principal at Chelsea Park Elementary School, a suburb of Birmingham.

One of Madison elementary’s first events will be Curriculum Nights, which are targeted for parents only. Teachers will explain details about subjects, classroom procedures, homework and discipline policies and tentative field trips.

On Aug. 21, parents of fifth-graders can visit from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Then, sixth-grade parents can attend Curriculum Night from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Parents of third-graders at Madison elementary will meet with teachers from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 25. Fourth-grade parents are scheduled that day from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

On Aug. 26, first-grade parents will meet from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Then, parents of second-graders are scheduled for 6 to 6:45 p.m. Kindergarten parents can visit on Aug. 28 from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

On Curriculum Nights, Madison elementary’s computer lab will be open before and after meetings. A school employee will assist parents in reviewing websites that can help students with at-home study.

New teachers and staff members at Madison elementary for this year are Kimberly Marrazzo, kindergarten; Anna Faulk, first grade; Meredith Brewer, sixth grade; Lisa Anderson, aide; and Erin Lusk, art teacher.

Elizabeth ‘Britt’ Lovelace is assistant principal at Madison elementary.
