MADISON – Aspiring entrepreneurs can take advantage of an upcoming series of classes, “Money Smart for Small Business,” presented by the Jane K. Lowe Financial Literacy Program.

Madison Chamber of Commerce and Community Bank Partners are sponsoring the sessions.

“Money Smart for Small Business” offers training to employees working in or owners of small businesses. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Small Business Administration jointly have developed the curriculum.

The program is divided into 10 sessions. Participants are introduced to a different topic in each session and provided an overview, basic concepts and key points associated with the subjects.

Ten different sessions will cover topics such as organizational types, risk and time management, record keeping, banking services available to small businesses, credit reporting, insurance, tax planning and ‘selling’ a small business.

Starting Sept. 4, all sessions meet on Thursdays from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Radisson Inn in Madison at 8721 Madison Blvd. The group will not meet on Oct. 9, which is during fall break for local schools.

The Lowe program targets new and aspiring entrepreneurs, persons without formal financial training, existing business owners who want to know more about financials or anyone interested in their ‘financial IQ.’

The cost is $10 per class in advance or $20 at the door.

During her lifetime, Jane K. Lowe was a friend and benefactor of many charitable organizations. The foundation that she established serves as an enduring legacy of her generosity.
