MADISON – Tempting desserts and sweet, melodious sounds will combine when the Bob Jones High School Chorus presents their annual Coffee and Cake Concert on Sept. 16.

The concert will start at 7 p.m. in Zompa Auditorium.

“The concert will feature the Mixed Chorus, Patriot Singers, as well as smaller ensembles and vocal soloists,” Randall Fields said. Fields directs the chorus students at Bob Jones and also teaches piano classes.

‘Coffee and Cake’ is a longstanding tradition for the school to offer community residents a relaxed evening of entertainment while enjoying delicious desserts and fresh coffee.

“The concert will include European classics by Mendelssohn, Schumann and Vaughan Williams, as well as American and Japanese folk songs,” Fields said. Also on the program will be a contemporary American Spiritual, selections from musical theater and popular hits.

Homemade desserts, finger foods and beverages served by the students in the auditorium lobby will follow the hour-long concert.

Admission to Coffee and Cake is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Profits from this fundraising concert will help cover costs for the chorus students to travel to state and national competitions in the spring of 2015.

Under Fields’ leadership, the Bob Jones chorus has won national competitions in Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D. C. and Branson, Mo. The chorus has performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall and made its European debut in 2012 with concerts in Italian venues including the Vatican, Rome and Naples.
