MADISON – The congregation of CrossPointe Church has built a new facility “smack dab across from the YMCA.”

That’s the humorous directions that Senior Pastor John Dees uses for his new church building at 78 Hughes Road. For their former location further north on Hughes Road, Dees used the familiar tagline, “Smack dab across from Bob Jones High School,” in TV commercials.

“Primarily, we had grown to such a point (at the former location) that we were completely out of room, especially in the children’s area and the youth area,” Dees said. “The new site is significantly larger for worship and for parking.”

The new sanctuary can seat approximately 850 people, compared to 450 in the other building. “We also have more classroom space,” he said.

“We’re very thankful to be here. The community has shown lots of interest regarding the building. We’ve had lots of visitors,” Dees said.

He describes worship as “exciting, energized and Bible-centered. We’re here to develop devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.”

The CrossPointe congregation follows a doctrine that is “primarily a non-denomination feel and some connections with Southern Baptist,” Dees said.

“We have excellent ministries for children that are family-based and also a strong AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) youth ministry,” Dees said. “We offer Mother’s Morning Out. Our youth ministry is very vibrant under youth minister Ryan Epps.”

Rex Looney directs CrossPointe’s music ministry. A team of members oversees the children’s ministry.

CrossPointe is a “mission-oriented church,” both locally and abroad, Dees said. Members have helped to build a school in Haiti and helped communities in Guatemala, Africa and the former Soviet Union.”

“Please come and join us,” Dees said. “We would love for you to visit us right smack dab across from the YMCA.”

CrossPointe sold its former property to Valley Presbyterian Church.

Sunday worship times are 9:15 and 10:50 a.m. Services are held on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
