MADISON – Taryn Robinson already has accomplished a feat in second grade that many adults wish they had attained.

Robinson’s writing has been published. The Heritage Elementary School second-grader wrote “The Stinky Habit” about a skunk, published by Green Screen Adventures. “We have a famous student,” Heritage Principal Dr. Georgina Nelson said.

“I wrote about a skunk because it was summer and skunks come out the most during summer,” Taryn said.

Luckily, she has never had an up-close-and-person encounter with one of the creatures. “I have never seen a skunk up close. I would be scared if it sprayed me,” Taryn said.

After viewing a non-fiction cartoon called “Wild Kratts,” Taryn discovered that different types of skunks live in the animal world. “That’s how I learned about them,” she said.

In her story, Taryn wrote, “One sunny afternoon, Stinker was playing with Ellie, Peanut, Fluffy and Honey. They were playing freeze tag. Then Peanut got two turns in a row.”

Stinker the skunk was angered by Peanut’s selfishness. “Then it happened. Stinker’s habit happened. He sprayed his stinky spray! Then his friends ran away,” Taryn wrote.

Luckily, the youngsters’ parents reconciled the situation. Taryn made sure that “The Stinky Habit” has a happy ending.

Taryn’s parents are Jamal and Brandie N. Robinson.
