Barbara Barth Miller November 25, 1927 – October 23, 2014

Barbara Barth Miller passed away Thursday, October 23. She was born in Milwaukee and spent much of her youth in Houston. At age 18, she graduated with honors from SMU. While working as a cartographic draftsman in Wichita Falls, she met and married John in 1951. They spent some time in Japan during the Korean War and then relocated to Kansas. They spent several years in Seattle and Baltimore and finally ended up in Huntsville in 1964.

Once she raised her family, Barbara went back to school and earned a Master’s degree from AAMU. She was a special education teacher for Madison County and then served as project director for United Cerebral Palsy.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Fern Barth, her sister Jo, and her son Stephen.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; sons, Christopher and Patrick (Dawn); grandchildren, Emmett, Shelby, and Reed; a niece, and three nephews.

Visitation was held Saturday, October 25, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, and the funeral was held Sunday, October 26, at 4 p.m. at Valley United Methodist Church.

In honor of her lifelong commitment to helping others, please bring a blanket to be donated to the Downtown Rescue Mission. Donations may also be made to Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Valley United Methodist Church.
