MADISON – For the James Clemens Jets, the pure home team in the first Madison City Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament, game two was never in doubt on Nov. 25 after taking care of Butler the day before.

The Jets scored 10 points on the visiting Thompson Warriors before Thompson scored its first points at 4:42 in the first period with a layup. It would be the only points for a while, as James Clemens led 19-2 after the first period.

The Warriors were able to muster 16 points at halftime to the Jets’ 38, and the second half kept the status quo with the final score standing at 57-31 in favor of James Clemens.

“Everybody was ready to play,” Jets head coach Danny Petty said. The guys coming in did a good job and that’s what it takes.”

Jason Landman led the way with 20 points for James Clemens, playing more than 28 of the 32 minutes for the Jets. Josh Garth and Joel Logan chipped in eight points and Trai James contributed seven.

“[Coach Petty] wanted us to go and push it up the court really fast and use our size advantages,” James said. “[The Warriors] weren’t that tall, so Jason [Landman] did really good, Labryan [Ray], too.”

James Clemens led 23-2 as late as the 5:36 mark in the second quarter and had its largest lead in the game at the end of the third quarter at 55-24, allowing Petty to cycle in plenty of reserves off the bench for James Clemens.

“We always thought this year we’d be deep, and today we were,” Petty said. “And we just got to keep it up.”

Drew Thomas scored seven points for Thompson, leading the Warriors. Demonte Caffey and Blake Lewis both had six points.
