MADISON – At the start of the Madison City Council meeting on Jan. 26, Madison Fire Chief Ralph Cobb was called to the podium for recognition of his time with the City.

Mayor Troy Trulock awarded Cobb with a pin honoring Cobb’s 15 years of employment as chief of the Madison Fire Department. Overall, Cobb has amassed 34 years’ experience in fire prevention and safety, with his first 19 years coming in his hometown’s department in Lanett, Ala.

“I’ll scare everybody and say I’m looking forward to 15 more years,” Cobb joked after receiving his pin.

In other business, District 6 Councilman Gerald Clark formally announced the designation of the Madison City Cemetery on the south side of Mill Road near the intersection of Mill and Hughes Road as an Alabama Historic Cemetery Register. The approval came through on Jan. 14 and allots for a historical marker or a plaque, which will be sponsored by the Alabama Historical Commission.

Truock also announced the City’s acceptance of two 2015 Ford Fusions from Madison County Commissioner and former Madison City Councilman Steve Haraway, which the Council approved unanimously. Trulock noted that Haraway has donated six sets of vehicles to the City since he assumed office in 2013.
