MADISON – Residents can forget this winter’s bone-chilling weather and start focusing on spring in an upcoming series of gardening workshops.

Master Gardeners of North Alabama will open the 2015 “Lunch ‘n Learn Workshops” series on March 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Dublin Park, 8324 Old Madison Pike.

Master Gardener Bonnie Gardener will present the workshop “Time to Start a Vegetable Garden, Seeds and Buying Plants.” This session will guide the amateur gardener through the basics of starting a garden, choosing plants or seeds and the best dates and locations for planting.

“If you are a beginning gardener, the first workshop is for you,” publicist Sue Khoury said. The workshops are free and open to the public.

The workshop series will continue on Tuesdays through April 14 and run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The master gardeners’ association is presenting the workshops in cooperation with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

Master Gardeners will present each workshop in the series:

* March 17 – “Roses 101,” Barbara McFarlen.

* March 24 – “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme: Starting an Herb Garden,” Dorothy Thomas.

* March 31 – “Planning, Building and Planting Your Summer Vegetable Garden,” Max Campbell.

* April 7 – “Lasagna Gardening,” Sue Bish.

* April 14 – “Color in the Shade Throughout the Year,” Melissa Kirkindall.

“We’re going paperless. Please bring your note-taking materials with you to class,” Khoury said. “A listing of relevant, online publications for each workshop will be e-mailed to workshop registrants a few days in advance of each workshop so that you can download them.”

Space for workshop participants is limited. “Feel free to bring your lunch,” Khoury said.

To attend, interested individuals must register online. To register, visit mginfo.org, click the “MGNA” tab and click the Lunch ‘n Learn link.
