Rainbow Math Team takes high places in Hayden

MADISON – Math teams from Rainbow Elementary School compiled outstanding results at the Hayden Middle School Math Tournament on Feb. 7.

Hayden is located in Blount County, Alabama. Rainbow students in fifth and sixth grade competed in the divisions for small schools.

Rainbow fifth-graders dominated the place standings in individual awards. Maanasi Limaye was near the top of competitors by earning second place.

Other individual awards for Rainbow fifth-graders went to Jenson Wilhelm in fourth place; Adam Mercier, fifth place; Brandon Todd, seventh place; and Elaine Bao, ninth place.

Rainbow’s fifth-grade team won second place. Their score trailed the first-place team by only three points in spirited competition at the tournament. Rainbow’s team score consisted of the top four individual scores, as listed above, plus the ciphering score.

Members of the fifth-grade ciphering team are Will Cox, Maanasi Limaye, Brandon Todd and Jenson Wilhelm. Other members of the fifth-grade team are Amir Downey, Siri Grace, Christin Montgomery and Anthony Ramos.

Sixth-graders also performed well in the Hayden tournament. Earning individual awards were Emma Tolbert in fourth place; Sam Uchitel, fifth place; Noah Hutnik, sixth place; and Will Bao, seventh place.

Rainbow’s sixth-grade team garnered second place in Hayden. The sixth-grade team score was calculated in the same way as the scoring for fifth grade.

The sixth-grade ciphering team includes Will Bao, Maddy Dobbs, Emma Tolbert and Sam Uchitel. Other members of Rainbow’s sixth-grade team are Ren Ito and Gabby Samaras.

Coaches for the Rainbow Math Team are Sara Frederick and Bill Smoak. The Rainbow Math Club coach is Nicole Orr.
