District offers summer schools classes at all levels, skills

MADISON – Madison Board of Education has approved the curricula, fees and schedules for Summer School 2015.
The district is offering classes for high school, middle school, special education and English Language Learner (ELL) programs.
High school students will meet at both Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools. A new, online class will be available for government and economics.
To-date, high school courses will include English 9-12; Algebra I, IA, IB and algebra II with trig; algebraic connections; geometry I, A, B; health; physical and environmental science; biology; life PE, driver’s education; computer applications; piano keyboarding, vocal techniques; early and modern U.S. history; government/economics; and world history/geography.
Summer school will offer three sessions of driver’s education, health and credit recovery classes: June 1-12, June 15-26 and June 29-July 10.

Liberty Middle School will house summer school classes for middle schoolers. Courses will include math and language arts/reading for grades 5-8.
Middle school students will meet from June 2-29. Registration will be held May 26-29, along with late registration on June 1.

Students in special education will meet at Mill Creek Elementary School for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Seventh-graders through seniors will go to James Clemens. Sessions will meet from June 3 through July 1.
At Mill Creek, the Developmental Program I will offer literature-based study focusing on language and communication. Students may go on field trips. Student can attend full or part time.
Special Education Tutoring at Mill Creek will concentrate on reading and math for individual goals. At James Clemens, the older youth will pursue a curriculum with academics, functional living skills, pre-vocation and technology.
Heritage Elementary School will be headquarters for the ELL program, which now includes third-graders. For more information, call Nichole Phillips-Heritage at 256-772-2075.
