HUNTSVILLE – The U.S. Space & Rocket Center will honor veterans of World War II and other military personnel during Victory Day on Aug. 10.

The event coincides with the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The activities will start at 10 a.m. and run through 1 p.m. in the Saturn V Hall.

Victory Day will open with a meet-and-greet session with the VIPs, who are veterans who will attend the event. The general public and local officials will extend their appreciation to veterans, especially to the men and women who served during World War II.

During this time, the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) Band and other entertainers will perform. In addition, photo opportunities and interviews will be open until 10:50 a.m.

Lunch will be served starting at 10:50 a.m. The ceremonial passing of “The American Armed Forces Torch of Freedom” will be conducted and acknowledge veterans from World War II and then advance to all conflicts from that timeframe to present day.

The celebration program will start at 11:45 a.m. After a welcome, attendees will witness the presentation of colors and singing of “The National Anthem.” The 2015 event chairman will introduce dignitaries and open the program.

Veterans who cannot walk through the entire parking lot can stop by the entrance at the front of the space center. Signage and volunteers will guide guests to the parking area for World War II veterans. Veteran/VIP Parking will be available in front of the Davidson Center.

Public parking will be open at the center’s main entrance. Shuttle buses will transport the general public to and from public parking. Guests will need to bring their own wheelchair or walker, if needed.

Tax-deductible donations for this event, made payable to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, are welcomed.

To register for Victory Day, call 256-340-1234 or visit rocketcenter.com/victory.
