MADISON – Young teenagers, educators and Madison citizens will assemble on Nov. 9 to honor the men and women who have kept freedom alive in the United States.

Discovery Middle School will host the fourth annual “DMS Tribute to Heroes” on Nov. 9 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. All veterans, military personnel in active duty and reservists are invited to attend the event.

“We are expecting a packed house this year, and we are excited to be able to honor our ‘true heroes’ and let them know how much each appreciate them. Each year this program has grown and grown,” event spokesperson and Discovery teacher Anthony Graham said.

The tribute event will open with Heroes Breakfast for veterans in the Discovery cafeteria at 8 a.m. The ceremony and program of activities will start at 9 a.m. in the gym.

Jennifer Merritt will lead the Discovery Band in upbeat patriotic tunes. The Discovery Choir members and Discovery Dance Team also will perform.

Students will read poetry, guests will present speeches and event coordinators will give special presentations to local groups. “We are so honored to have the Semper Fi Community Task Force and their Wounded Warriors attend this year’s event,” Graham said.

Graham asks military personnel who plan to attend to complete a survey on Google, which is available at http://goo.gl/forms/Q72y9xdxqG. The brief questionnaire asks for service branch, awards and deployments.

“Feel free to invite any friends that have served or are currently serving in the military,” Graham said. “We hope to see everyone at the tribute.”
