Holman worked 44 years at Madison Manor

MADISON – With a fluctuating economy, few people today can expect to keep the same job for 10 years … certainly not 20 or more. However, Pearl Holman of Madison broke the odds to retire after working for 44 years at Madison Manor Nursing Home.
Holman was honored recently by her employer and coworkers at Madison Manor. “Mrs. Holman’s accomplishment is 44 dedicated years of service providing care to thousands of nursing home patients and residents,” Madison Manor administrator Felita Smith said.
Holman has been a resident of Madison since 1962. “October 14, 1971 is the actual date of employment that she began taking care of residents who no longer could take care of themselves,” Smith said.
Actually, Holman intended to retire several years ago and was honored at a retirement party at Madison Manor. “Upon leaving that day, Pearl’s supervisor asked if she could put her on the schedule for an upcoming shift,” Smith said. “Pearl worked the requested shift and continued to work ever since.”
Holman has exhibited total dedication to the patients at Madison Manor. However, people who are acquainted with Holman know that she also is dedicated to her church, Phillips Tabernacle Primitive Baptist (PB), at 930 Balch Road in Madison and her family, Smith said.
Pearl and the late Alvin Holman were married for 37 years. He was a minister. “Together they had two children, three grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives,” Smith said.
“Pearl was asked what was one thing she attributed to such a long and successful work history in one of the most difficult professions,” Smith said. “Pearl’s response was, ‘I like working and enjoy being around people.'”
“It is our privilege to honor this remarkable woman for such an outstanding accomplishment,” Smith said.
Madison Manor is a federal- and state-licensed 80-bed skilled nursing facility providing skilled nursing care and rehabilitative services. Intense rehabilitative services include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
