MADISON – Jordan Cozby, a senior at Bob Jones High School, has been selected “Young Citizen of the Month.”

STAR 99.1-FM and the Community Awareness for Youth (CAFY) organization sponsor the program. The award acknowledges his outstanding community service and commitment to academics.

Cozby was the first high school student to participate in the volunteer team for United Way Community Impact to grant more than $500,000 for local education and youth development. He also volunteers with Vacation Bible School activities, children’s groups and local non-profit organizations, like Huntsville Inner City Learning Center.

An active political advocate, Cozby serves as national chairman of High School Democrats of America. He often works in the community, region and at national events and causes, including registering voters.

Cozby said his motivation originates with “social justice. I’ve seen that, when people come together for a cause, we really can improve our community.”

“Also, Jordan’s mother has had a great influence on him,” CAFY member Erica Hobbs said.

Among many honors, C-Span’s U.S. Senate Youth Program recognized Cozby. He ranks as a semifinalist with National Merit Scholarship Program.

Cozby was a finalist in Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s INSPIRE program, a national competition in the arts, humanities and social sciences (Inspiring the Nation’s Students to Pursue Innovative Research).

He received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) citizenship award. At Bob Jones, he has served as captain of the Debate Team, earned top honors at Samford University’s Public Forum Debate and was a quarterfinalist in the International Public Policy Forum.

Cozby has served as an Alabama State House and Senate page. His peers voted for him as “Outstanding Delegate” at American Legion’s Boys State. His political commentary has been published in numerous publications, including “The Huffington Post.”

His parents are Robin Cozby and Marilyn Lands.

Agencies and businesses that support CAFY include Huntsville Police Department, City of Huntsville Office of Multicultural Affairs and Human Relations Commission, Huntsville Utilities, Huntsville City Schools and Madison County Schools.
