MADISON – Alabama is ranked among the 10 states most at risk for a natural disaster. While the public can’t stop a natural disaster, people can prepare.

Redstone Federal Credit Union (RFCU) will host a panel discussion on “Preparing for a Natural Disaster” on Feb. 25.

The session will start at 6 p.m. at The Atrium, 220 Wynn Drive in Huntsville.

“Staying informed about severe weather is a priority, especially in Alabama during this time of the year,” Ken Jost said. Jost is RFCU senior assistant vice president of marketing.

The credit union “is bringing together local experts from the Emergency Management Agency, American Red Cross, Greater Huntsville Humane Society and Redstone Insurance Services,” Jost said.

Organization representatives will discuss how to create a family communications plan, how individuals can keep themselves and pets safe during severe weather and ways to review an insurance policy for possible gaps.

Time will be allotted for the audience to ask questions to panel members.

This free event is part of Redstone’s ongoing financial education efforts. Seminars are held monthly to inform, educate and motivate RFCU members to make the moves now that will prepare them for a strong financial future, Jost said.

With more than $4 billion in assets, Redstone Federal Credit Union is the largest member-owned financial institution in Alabama and Tennessee and one of the 25 largest federal credit unions in the nation by assets. Based in Huntsville, the credit union serves approximately 385,000 members.

RFCU was chartered on Nov. 28, 1951 and has 25 branches across North Alabama and Tennessee.
