Why I Love This Town

MADISON – Growing up in Oneonta, Pipe Moore was accustomed to a slow pace and little change.

“Everyone knows each other. For instance, my parents met on the school bus in middle school, have been together since and never lived anywhere else,” Moore said.

Moore believes Madison is “just the right size” but remains a close-knit community. People’s willingness to help is an asset.

When she moved here, Moore knew six people and the route to her job in Huntsville. “I learned how to rely on neighbors, church family, co-workers and new friends to help me navigate,” Moore said. “People were so nice to offer advice.”

That generosity remains, even with Madison’s growth. “I want people to love Madison and enjoy raising their family here,” she said.

The Moores moved to Madison in 1999 for his job with the family business. “I knew from the beginning this would be our home,” Moore said.

Currently, Moore is president of Madison City Council of PTAs and Liberty Middle School PTA. A stay-at-home mom, Moore substitute teaches. She leads a Fathom Ministries group at Asbury United Methodist Church.

She is past president of Columbia Elementary School PTA and Providence Women’s Club of Madison, chaired Madison Hospital’s ‘baby shower’ and has volunteered on Family of the Year committee and mayoral campaigns.

Madison City Schools offers quality education and innovative leaders, she said. “My only concern is that we become so intimidated by national and state records/rankings or test scores, we lose sight on what’s best. As long as we keep our eyes focused on the child, we’ll always excel in education.”

Her husband Shane works as a district manager for National Coatings and Supplies. Their daughter Maddie, a Liberty seventh-grader, participates with dance team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Southern Sensations competition dance; and Fathom.

Madison Street Festival is Moore’s favorite event. “It truly brings Madison families to enjoy the beautiful downtown area and support local artists/businesses.”

“I love to entertain. I want people to always feel welcome at my house,” Moore said. “Being at home surrounded by friends sharing stories and watching your children build friendships is the best feeling.”
