MADISON – Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 11716 County Line Road will host a Lenten concert on March 13 with Christian musician Chris Driesbach.

The concert will start at 10:30 a.m. “This service will focus on the evidence for Jesus’ love, as seen in the events surrounding his death, and will feature eight of Driesbach’s original songs, along with the lyrics of many traditional Lenten hymns,” Rev. John Roebke at Lamb of God said.

Originally from New Orleans, Driesbach was living in a condo when Hurricane Katrina hit the city. His home and church were flooded and nearly destroyed. “To Driesbach, that was reason enough to drop everything and hit the road to share his music and his message of thanks,” Roebke said.

In June 2006, Driesbach paid off his debts, sold his belongings and got in his car to travel the country. “It had long been a dream of mine to do this,” he said. “I’m very grateful to have had this amazing experience.”

Driesbach has performed more than 2,200 concerts in 700 Lutheran churches in 41 states. He has recorded six CDs of original Christian music, including songs for children.

In November 2016, he and Cindi Smith were married in Huntsville. Homeless no longer, he now tours about 20 weeks per year.

“The road that led Driesbach to becoming a Christian is anything but average,” Roebke said. “He grew up in a dysfunctional household, he said, and turned to alcohol at 14 to cope. Before long, the coping mechanism became a long-lasting addiction.”

Then, one morning Driesbach woke up with the ‘shakes,’ slang for withdrawal. “It really scared me because I realized I was dying of alcoholism,” he said.

Driesbach joined a12-step program for alcoholics and has been sober for 28 years.

Driesbach’s music varies from country, reggae, folk and some rock ‘n roll. However, each song is about his Christian life path and inspiration from the Bible.
