Athlete of the Week

MADISON – A Sparkman High School senior, Beth Fowler participates with the bowling team, which recently won the first-ever state bowling championship in the girls’ division.

“I’ve tried sticking to one sport that I like, get better and achieve the highest goals,” Fowler said. “Bowling gives me the passion and desire I’ve always craved.”

Fowler has tried numerous other sports, but these “never gave me the drive that I wanted. So when my family started up, I instantly connected to bowling and the excitement of being on the lanes,” she said.

She also bowls in a league twice weekly with her brothers, Doug and Russell. Doug also attends Sparkman and Russell is a fifth-grade at Madison Cross Roads.

Their parents are Rusty and Rebecca Fowler. “Our mom works on the arsenal while our dad works for the City of Huntsville at Hayes Nature Preserve, “Beth said.

Q & A

Q: What restaurants do you like to go to in Madison?

A: Smokey’s BBQ. “The food is fantastic but also because one of our local bowlers owns the place. He’s a nice guy,” Beth said.

Q: What are your favorite sports teams?

A: Auburn Tigers. “My favorite college bowling team is the Hastings Broncos,” Beth said.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: “My favorite sports memory is when my bowling team won the first-ever state bowling championship. All of my girls were excited and cheering. We were all just having a good time,” she said.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: Her free time is limited, with bowling six days each week. When she does have down time, Beth likes to read and be with family and friends.

Q: What are your plans after graduating from Sparkman?

A: Beth will use a bowling scholarship to enroll at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. “I’m planning to go pro for the Professional Women’s Bowling Association and become a physical therapist at Huntsville Hospital as my main job.
