MADISON – Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory has opened at 16 Hughes Road.

Legacy Chapel owners Mark and Rhonda Slaton with 40-plus years combined experience and Mike Campbell located in the heart of Madison because they felt the city was under-served in the funeral business, community outreach coordinator Shannon Lott said.

“Some people are traveling 15-plus miles for a funeral home to Huntsville, Madison County and even Limestone County,” Lott said. “Madison City deserves to have a funeral home that is convenient for their needs. Our business is locally owned.”

The Slatons plan a grand opening ceremony on May 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. However, Legacy Chapel is open and serving the community now.

Legacy Chapel has full range of services with traditional funerals, cremations, graveside, memorial services and pre-planning. “Our goal is to make each funeral as personalized as the life it celebrates,” Lott said.

“Funerals should be about sharing stories, knowledge and why the loved one mattered,” Lott said. “It’s an opportunity for people to connect with each other and grieve, but also heal and cherish the deceased’s memory.”

Covering 15,300 square feet, the facility has a chapel; two visitation rooms; group gathering room; children’s room; crematory and its viewing room; flower, prep and merchandise rooms; apartment; three offices; refrigeration area; and three-car garage.

The staff can hold three services daily and two or three visitations simultaneously.

People will want to see Legacy’s beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities. “You don’t feel like you’re walking into a funeral home. We designed it to have a welcoming feeling,” Lott said.

People “will love the quality of service, integrity and hard work. All families should be treated with dignity and respect. We want to ensure their needs are met every time,” she said.

When funeral planning, people often focus of the loved one’s death and forget to celebrate their life. “We encourage people remember what was special and make services personalized and meaningful,” Lott said.

Renee Bishop works as part-time funeral assistant. Phillip Paolucci handles maintenance. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
