MADISON – “Music at Messiah” will present Aleksandra ‘Sasha’ Kasman, 20-year-old Russian-born pianist, in solo recital this month.

Messiah Lutheran Church at 7740 U.S. 72 W. will host Kasman’s concert on May 22 at 4 p.m.

These concerts are free and open to the public, chairman John Shriver said. “Music at Messiah remains a self-supporting activity. Donations are accepted at the door, in addition to sponsorship and advertising program opportunities,” he said.

Kasman is a student of internationally renowned pianist and teacher Yakov Kasman, who is professor of piano and Artist-in-Residence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Sasha is Yakov Kasman’s daughter.

Sasha, a junior at UAB, also studies French and is in the University Honors Program. She serves as vice president of Music Notes for the Soul, a campus service organization.

Sasha joined her father in performances of Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of Animals” with Brevard Symphony in Florida, with New York Chamber Players and with Hendersonville Symphony in North Carolina.

Recently, Sasha has performed solo recitals in New York City, Washington D.C. and Las Vegas. She and her father have collaborated on several duo-piano performances in the United States, Russia and South Korea. This month, she will complete a two-week teaching and performing fellowship in Milwaukee, Wis.

Sasha’s numerous awards include a silver medal at VII International Competition for Young Pianists, second place and Young Jury Winner Award at Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition and PianoArts North American Competition Scholarship Award.

She has performed as a soloist with Alabama Symphony, LaGrange Symphony and Southern Adventist University Symphony. Sasha played five concertos with Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

“High quality, live classical music is a treasure that all ages can enjoy,” Meredith Kilby with Messiah Lutheran said. “Messiah’s concert space, coupled with its terrific acoustics, provides a perfect platform for musicians to personally connect with the music and the musicians.”
