TRIANA – Mary E. Caudle has announced her bid for re-election as Mayor of the Town of Triana.

Caudle said she is “thankful for two terms that I have had the privilege of serving as our town’s mayor. Having led this town in a positive direction, I am determined to continue the route.”

“Together we have accomplished a lot, but I do recognize that we still have more to do,” she said.

Triana residents wanted their town to grow. “In 2008, we had approximately 400 homes. Today, our town stands strong with over 700 homes and an estimated 1,600 citizens,” Caudle said.

Rebuilding of Triana’s infrastructure has begun. Caudle cited an upgraded park with new playground equipment, two full-size outdoor basketball courts, paved parking area and additional lighting. With assistance of community volunteers, repairs were completed for tables, benches and the old pavilion, along with building a new pavilion, she said.

“We wrote three grants that enabled us to build a wonderful new library with all new books, secure computers, bookshelves, furniture, printers and essentials to run a successful library … With assistance of multiple grants, we built a Community Safe Room,” along with a shelter for equipment, Caudle said.

Paved and repaired streets, new traffic and street signs, street lights and starting repairs of the town’s municipal building all show progress, she said.

Caudle said quality of life has been enhanced for senior citizens with USDA grants. Also, the crime rate has remained low, even with the loss of one part-time worker due to budget reduction.

“You said, ‘Let’s establish a better relationship with our neighboring cities, towns, county commissioners, state senate and state representative. That’s exactly what we are doing … an ongoing venture that is playing a vital role in providing of support for community growth,” Caudle said.

“We’re now starting to develop a Comprehensive Community Plan. The plan will include recommendations (about) land use, transportation, infrastructure, park and recreation, urban design for businesses and retail stores and utilities,” Caudle said.

Election Day is Aug. 23.
