MADISON – “All About Snakes” will be the topic of a free workshop on May 17 at the extension office at 819 Cook Ave. in Huntsville.

The workshop from noon to 2 p.m. is presented in cooperation with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Master Gardeners of North Alabama.

“Many people fear snakes and simply want them to disappear. The reality is that most snakes you’re likely to encounter are completely harmless. and they serve a vital role in the ecosystem,” Master Gardener publicist Sue Khoury said.

Regional Extension Agent Ken Creel will discuss ways to identify the types of snakes commonly found in north Alabama yards and gardens and how to tell the difference between venomous and harmless snakes.

He also will explain the role of snakes in the environment and ways to manage snakes for homeowners who do not want the animals on their property.

Participants must pre-register for this workshop, and space is limited. To register, visit https://form.jotform.com/61223938629967.
