MADISON- There was a flurry of late signings at Bob Jones and it concluded Friday with cross country and distance runner Tim McCarter signing with Montevallo.

McCarter’s signing made 32 athletes signed during the school year.

McCarter came on strong in track placing first at the sectional in the 3200M run. He also ran a leg on Bob Jones 4x800M Relay team that placed sixth at state. He also ran the mile and ran cross-country.

He will receive a combination of academic and athletic scholarships. He will major in game design.

Another late signee was basketball player Devontae Mason. Mason signed with Wallace State CC-Selma. He had a good showing in a showcase event in Montgomery and caught the coaches eye. His size (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) and outside shooting ability finally paid off with an offer.

Often at odds with former Bob Jones basketball coach Graham Aderholt, Mason was in and out of the lineup but stayed focused and stuck it out the last two years on the varsity team. He showed flashes of greatness like on Feb. 2 when he scored 29 points against Florence shooting 5 of 7 from behind the 3-point line.

“I had a chip on my shoulder this whole year,” Mason said of his senior season at Bob Jones. “I was overlooked. All this happened in the two months since the season ended. I went down to visit and it’s a pretty nice school. I’m only going to be there for one year and transfer. I just needed someone to give me that extra chance and I am going to give it my all. I’ve got a good relationship with the coach and I’m ready to play.”

Mason is also ready academically with a 23 on the ACT he qualifies for any D-1 school.

Track athlete Brianna Caudle won a gold medal in high jump at the State Track and Field signed with Jacksonville State University.

Anferee Jones signed a track scholarship with U of Mobile.

Gardy Sanchez signed a baseball scholarship with Marion Military Institute.

John Bryson signed a football scholarship with Methodist University.

McKenna Ray signed a softball scholarship with UNA.

Mikayla Jones softball Calhoun.

Dominique Davis football Life University.

Tyler Fredericks girls basketball signed with Lawson State.
