Dylan Haraway remembers Patriot coin tosses

Athlete of the Week
MADISON – A football standout for Bob Jones High School, Dylan Haraway now plays for the Georgetown College Tigers in Georgetown, Ky.
Dylan graduated from Bob Jones in 2014 with 4.3 GPA. Team captain for the Patriots, he earned Honorable Mention for All State and played in the Alabama-Mississippi All Star Game.
Dylan plays safety for the Georgetown Tigers. “After having traveled playing college ball, I have learned how great of a place Madison, Alabama is. I’m very thankful to have been raised here!” Dylan said.
“I take lots of math and education courses,” Dylan said. “My brother Dustin, my roommate and I started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter on campus. I am president of College Republicans of Georgetown.”
His parents are Steve and Donna Haraway. Steve represents District 2 on Madison County Commission. Donna works as a buyer for Huntsville City Schools. Dylan’s brother Dustin is a Georgetown senior.
When eating out in Madison, Dylan heads to La Placita. “Antonio, the owner, is a good friend and great man,” he said. Dylan’s favorite food is “chicken … grilled, fried, baked. I love it all.”
Dylan’s favorite teams are New England Patriots, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Cavaliers … and, of course, Georgetown Tigers.
For his senior-year Patriot games, Dylan remembers coin tosses. “Before every game, myself and my co-captains, Nick Holman, Roderick Randolph and Ryan Crooks, would begin our walk to midfield for the coin toss. One of us would say, ‘Wait til we get to the numbers.'”
“When we reached the numbers, we would lock arms and all would say, ‘I love y’all boys.’ We would continue walking until we reached the middle of the field. We did it the same way all 14 games. Still to this day when we see each other, we say, ‘I love y’all boys.'”
He is majoring in mathematics and secondary education and will graduate in December 2017. “I hope to be a graduate assistant football coach at a college and get my master’s degree in educational administration. Hopefully, at that point I will have decided if I’d like to pursue a college football coaching career or put my education degree in action and be a high school math teacher and football coach,” Dylan said.
