MADISON – Officers in Madison Police Department have arrested two individuals on two charges of attempted murder.

On May 22 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Madison police officers responded to a fight and shooting in progress at 8995 Madison Blvd. at Motel 6. A group of individuals had gathered to fight in the parking lot.

Two individuals, who were not involved in the fight, came out of their rooms. A number of shots were fired at them, and shotgun pellets subsequently struck them. One victim was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The other person was treated on the scene for a minor injury.

Detectives with Madison Police Department were able to identify suspects involved in the incident.

On May 24, Madison police served search warrants on two homes in Madison and recovered the weapons that they believe were used in the offense. The two individuals believed to have fired the shots were subsequently arrested.

Both individuals were charged with two counts of attempted murder and taken to the Madison County Jail. Each has a total bond of $60,000.

Police arrested one adult, 23-year-old Bernard Montrell Nash of Madison, and one 17-year-old juvenile male from Madison. The police department does not have further information available at this time.

Police Chief Larry Muncey continues on administrative leave from the department. In Muncey’s absence, Maj. Jim Cooke is serving as the acting chief of police.
