MADISON – A member of Troop 576, Tyler Moulton has earned the rank of Eagle Scout with his project at Camp Hulaco.

“I led a clearing of an area behind the primitive campsite to allow for a backpacking trail and campsite. Part of the area cleared near a rock ledge will serve as a prep area for a future rappelling area,” Moulton said. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns Camp Hulaco in Baileyton.

The work required loppers, bow saws, pick axe and puller bears, along with a chainsaw that certified adults used. Moulton also had to supply chainsaw gasoline, trash bags and water for volunteers.

“I had concrete blocks brought to create a fire pit for the camping site,” Moulton said. “Overall, we worked from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but the project included 13 volunteers and 75 man-hours.”

The project beneficiary representative, Chad Tillman, reviewed Moulton’s project and said “it was a very good job. My family, friends, troop and troop leaders all agreed the project went well and finished in a timely manner,” Moulton said.

“I wanted to become an Eagle Scout because I was very interested in camping and also being around a good group of guys who are my age from my church,” he said.

Moulton was born in Hayward, Calif. In 2000 when he was two years old, Tyler and his family moved to Madison for his father’s job. He attended Rainbow Elementary School, Discovery Middle School and recently graduated from Bob Jones High School.

His parents are Marty and Kathy Moulton. She is a stay-at-home mom. He works as a division chief in aerospace engineering for AMRDEC.

Tyler’s siblings are Justin, who works as a carpenter; Krystal, a dental associate; Tanner, Bob Jones junior; Trey, Discovery seventh-grader; and Tristen, Rainbow fifth-grader. The family attends The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Madison.

This summer, Tyler will enroll at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
