MADISON – Girls can have a fun night of chess and fellowship with friends during Girls Chess Night.

The popular summer outing for girls has resumed at Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe at 105 Brookridge Drive, Suite A near Madison Hospital. The girls meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.

“Bring chess sets or iPads to play chess,” Ranae Bartlett said. Bartlett is Executive Director of Madison City Chess League. “Bring your own chess board if you have one.”

The sessions are targeted for girls “who know how to play chess. They gather to play with other girls. Occasionally, guest instructors will give ‘mini-lessons.'”

In August, Girls Chess Night will move from Taziki’s to Rainbow Elementary School for sessions on Aug. 16, 23 and 30. During September, the girls will gather at Madison Elementary School of Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Because of Fall Break, Girls Chess Night will not meet on Oct. 4; however, on Oct. 11, 18 and 25, Columbia Elementary School will host the chess games. The girls will move to Heritage Elementary School for Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 29; they will skip Nov. 22 because of Thanksgiving break.

Taking a winter break, Girls Chess Night will not meet in December 2016, January 2017 and February 2017. In March 2017, the girls will meet at Horizon Elementary School on March 7, 21 and 28 (skipping March 4 due to Spring Break).

In April 2017, Girls Chess Night will play at West Madison Elementary School on April 4, 11, 18 and 25. They will not meet in May 2017.

“On the first Tuesday of each month, we will have ChessKid Nights, so bring your iPads or tablets to play chess online,” Bartlett said. “On ChessKid Nights, log on to play Fast Chess at 6 p.m.”
