MADISON – A municipal ordinance prohibits fireworks in the City of Madison.

However, thousands of families and individuals will take advantage of the professional fireworks show at Dublin Park at sundown on July 4. The fireworks will culminate a daylong schedule of entertainment and activities to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Dublin’s fireworks show is one exception to the ordinance that does allow organized fireworks displays that have received authorization by permit from City Hall.

“If you choose to use fireworks outside of city limits, please take all safety precautions to protect yourself and children. With high temperatures and dry conditions, there may be an increased risk of fire hazards,” a spokesperson with Madison Police Department said.

The ordinance (Sec. 18-3) states: “Fireworks, bonfires. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to throw any fireballs; set off, discharge or throw any rockets, firecrackers, torpedoes, squibs or other fireworks; or light any bonfires within the city except by permit.”

“(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to possess, keep, store, use, manufacture, sell, offer for sale, give away or handle any pyrotechnic within the corporate limits of the city except by permit,” the ordinance states.

Madison Police Department wishes a safe July Fourth celebration to residents.

Anyone who wants to visit Dublin Park for the fireworks exhibit can ride a shuttle bus from Bob Jones High School to Dublin Park. Only parking for persons with disabilities will be allowed at Dublin. After the fireworks, shuttle buses will transport people back to Bob Jones.

Madison Police Department headquarters are located in City Hall, 100 Hughes Road in Madison. In case of emergency, call 9-1-1. For situations that aren’t emergencies, call 256-772-5658.
