MADISON – With a focus on economic development, Teddy Powell has launched his campaign for the District 3 seat on Madison City Council.

Powell’s main initiative is “to focus on strategic economic development that is beneficial to Madison’s future. My campaign will focus on revitalization, business expansion and improved cooperation and communication with the mayor’s office, city employees and the citizens of Madison.”

“Stagnant political activity has hindered the city by allowing us to become landlocked, which limits potential growth,” Powell said. “District 3 has exceptional assets that should be leveraged in our city’s development and revitalization, such as Highway 20 frontages, interstate access and the historic downtown area.”

“Capitalizing on these assets benefits not only District 3 residents, but the city as a whole,” Powell said.

Powell has been a resident of Madison for 12 years and serves on the Madison Station Historic Preservation Commission and has made capital investments in helping to restore Madison’s historic district.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from Birmingham Southern College and an MBA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, while balancing both career and family.

In addition to his current experience as a budget analyst with the Department of Defense, he has worked for the banking industry in bond services. “I have also served as a city employee for the Hueytown Revenue Department and have a clear understanding of the roles and importance of city employees,” Powell said.

Powell and his wife have three children who have attended Madison City Schools and are proud residents of Madison.

As a licensed homebuilder in Alabama, he enjoys historic home renovation. “Revitalization is just as important as expansion. We must preserve our past while building our future,” Powell said. “It is my desire to use my education, experience and love of Madison to serve the residents of District 3.”
