Sanitation changes for Madison residents in Limestone
Madison residents in Limestone County now will have sanitation service from Madison County Sanitation. CONTRIBUTED
MADISON – Beginning Aug. 4, Madison residents living in Limestone County will have sanitation service provided by a different company.
The City of Madison recently contracted with Madison County Commission to extend Madison County Sanitation routes into the Limestone County side of the city. This change will result in all Madison citizens, regardless of their county of residence, to receive automated, carted household garbage collection services from Madison County Sanitation.
Collection day will continue on Thursdays for Madison residents in Limestone County, and customers will continue to receive a bill from their utility provider. Madison County Sanitation charges $13.50 per month for weekly automated servicing of one 96-gallon cart. Additional carts are available at $5 per month.
Madison County Sanitation has issued guidelines for customers to follow. Residents must only use carts that Madison County issues. Madison County started delivering containers on July 1 and will continue through the beginning of August.
Residents must place carts at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day. The company requires for carts to sit on a flat, level surface within two feet of the roadside and a minimum of three feet from any object, like a mailbox, vehicle or telephone pole.
All household garbage should be bagged to prevent spillage and to keep the wind from scattering it. Carts should not be overfilled; spillage cleanup is the resident’s responsibility.
Madison County Sanitation does not service items such as grass, leaves, building materials, metal scrap or paint. In additions, workers will not pick up hazardous chemicals, such as acids or pool chemicals, oil, dirt, rocks, wood, furniture, ashes, sawdust, carpet and pad, dead animals, human or animal waste or tires.
Residents should remove their carts from the roadside in a timely manner.
When a person moves, the cart must remain at its original location. If you move within Madison or another jurisdiction served by the company, contact Madison County Sanitation to establish new service and receive a cart at the new address.
Madison County Sanitation’s office address is Madison County Courthouse, 100 Northside Square in Huntsville. For more information, call 256-532-3718, email sanitation@madisoncountyal.gov or visit www.madisonal.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=740.
