MADISON – Davis Bowman of Madison has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Ascend Cares Foundation.

This summer, the Ascend Cares Foundation awarded 23 scholarships to children of their employees in Alabama, Florida and Texas. Ascend Cares Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that Ascend Performance Materials manages and funds.

Applicants were required to have earned a minimum 3.0 grade point average and to have demonstrated a record of community service.

Bowman, 18, is a graduate of James Clemens High School. At James Clemens, Bowman was a member of the Jets football and baseball teams and was a Student Superintendent Scholar.

Away from campus, he volunteered at Madison Adaptive Sports Program, a sports program for individuals with a physical challenge. Davis has enrolled at Auburn University and plans to major in mechanical engineering.

His parents are Alicia and Barry Bowman. Barry Bowman works as a process engineering leader at the Ascend Performance Materials plant in Decatur.

“Davis is a very bright young person and we’re grateful for the opportunity to invest in his future,” Rachell Gold said. Gold is Executive Director of Ascend Cares Foundation.

“We believe that part of being a good business means being good to our team members, their families and our community. We’re very excited for Davis and we’re honored to support him as he furthers his education,” Gold said.

Ascend Performance Materials is one of the world’s leading producers of chemicals and nylon resin. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company has approximately 3,500 full-time and contract personnel, including approximately 370 in Decatur.
