MADISON – One of Madison’s unique community events will be on tap with the third annual Sausage Fest at Blue Pants Brewery.

Blue Pants at 500 Lanier Road will host Sausage Fest on Aug. 20. People’s Choice voting for guests’ favorite cook team will run from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Awards presentations will follow shortly afterwards.

“We are so excited for our third annual Sausage Fest event this year,” Blue Pants owner Allison Spratley said. “We are expecting more cook teams and more than 600 ticketed guests. Sausage Fest is such a unique event to our area.”

Cook teams create their own sausage from scratch onsite. “With the addition of a chicken category this year, I think this could be the best Sausage Fest yet,” Spratley said.

Professionally trained judges evaluate the competitors who vie for cash prizes.

Greater Huntsville Humane Society will benefit from the event by receiving all money collected for additional voting tickets. The humane society, a 501(c)3 organization, is a no-kill animal shelter dedicated to furthering the humane care and treatment of animals and providing adoption services for unwanted animals.

Established 40-plus years ago, Greater Huntsville Humane Society operates with a small staff and a governing board of directors. In 2015, the organization found homes for more than 450 animals and distributed 30,000 pounds of pet food to needy animals.

Greater Huntsville Humane Society will host the first-ever Sausage Fest Weenie Dog Race. Dachshund dogs, whether purebred or mixed breed, will compete for “Top Dog” prizes, including a special gift basket and award ribbon. Registration for the Weenie Dog Race is now open.

Humane society volunteers will bring adoptable dogs and puppies looking for forever homes. “Stop by the Kissing Booth to pick up some puppy love and maybe a new family member,” Spratley said.

“We are honored to have Greater Huntsville Humane Society as our charity partner for this year’s event,” Spratley said. “The impact they have on the community is so great, and we hope to bring even more awareness through this partnership. We hope to raise over $2,500 this year for our friends at the society.”

Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the event. Children who are five years old and younger will be admitted free. With a ticket, guests will receive unlimited food samples, five People’s Choice votes and a Sausage Fest souvenir cup.

Additional voting tickets will cost $1 each. Beer tokens will be sold at the event and can be redeemed at any of the bar locations around the venue.
