Madison companies earn Huntsville chamber awards

HUNTSVILLE – The Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County recently presented the 2016 Small Business Awards, and some Madison companies were among the honorees.

The black-tie gala had a 1960s’ theme and was held at Davidson Center for Space Exploration. More than 950 people attended the event to support 130 award contenders in 14 categories. Individuals cast more than 1,700 nominations for the awards, now in their 31st year.

S3 was the presenting sponsor. Masters of ceremonies were deciBel Research President/CEO Jeff Gronberg, who also is 2016 vice chair for Small Business and Events, and WHNT news anchor Clarissa McLain.

In the Brewery of the Year category, Straight to Ale LLC earned the top award. Transcend LLC was named Business/Professional Services Business of the Year.

A popular eatery on Hughes Road in Madison, LawLers Barbecue earned the title of Culinary Business of the Year. LawLers Barbecue is famous for hand-pulled pork and huge stuffed potatoes smothered with barbecued meats. Along with the Madison location, LawLers has eight more stores in the Tennessee Valley.

The Emerging Business of the Year is Cintel Strategies Inc. Media Fusion was named Government Contracting-Business/Professional Service Business of the Year. Avion Solutions Inc. won the award for Government Contracting-Technology Business of the Year.

BrookeMD Primary Care earned the distinction of Medical Practice of the Year. Two groups received the Nonprofit of the Year Award: Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County and Neighborhood Concepts Inc. The Retailer of the Year Award went to Signs By Tomorrow Huntsville.

Led by President John Allen of Madison, Southern Construction & Design Inc. won Service Business of the Year. Focused on residential construction in North Alabama, Southern Construction offers new construction, remodels, additions and custom design.

Kids to Love Foundation is the Women-Owned Business of the Year. Led by founder Lee Marshall, Kids to Love has headquarters 140 Castle Drive in Madison.

The Technology Business of the Year honor went to AAL USA Inc. Tim Thornton with nLogic received the Russell G. Brown Executive Leadership Award. Alana Parker with Rocket City Drywall & Supply Inc. was named Young Professional of the Year.
