HUNTSVILLE – For 2016, Huntsville Library Foundation will present “New York Times” best-selling Erik Larson at the “Vive le Livre” gala.
The library system is celebrating the 30th anniversary for this annual fundraising event. Vive le Libre will be held at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Drive in Cummings Research Park in Huntsville on Nov. 16.
The evening will begin with an author reception at 6 p.m., followed by a seated dinner at 7 p.m. and the speaker at 8 p.m. Vive le Libre provides funds for valuable programming and critical resources to the 12 branches of the library system.
“This year marks an amazing milestone in the history of the Huntsville Library Foundation,” Foundation Chair Christina Tabereaux said. “We have raised over $1.4 million dollars over the last 30 years to support programs and initiatives at Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.”
“Larson is most well-known for his narrative nonfiction books ‘Devil in the White City’ and ‘Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania,'” Director of Public Relations Laura McPhail said. “From maritime disasters to a homicidal doctor, a killer storm to Victorian serial killers, Erik Larson specializes in adrenaline-fueled historical narratives.”
Larson’s other best-seller is “In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin.”
“Not only has Erik Larson mastered the art of compelling storytelling, he also challenges your preconceived notions of what a typical historian looks and acts like,” McPhail said.
“Mix equal parts of investigative journalist, inquisitive traveler, expert researcher, family man, animal lover and wine enthusiast, then add a generous portion of dry humor, and you might come close to creating a historian similar to Larson,” McPhail said.
Founded in 1986, Huntsville Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to advocate for the library and to acquire resources that enhance the value to the community. The foundation believes that a great library helps make a great community.
Tickets start at $125 per person. To purchase tickets, visit HuntsvilleLibraryFoundation.org. Reservation deadline is Nov. 10.
