Wild & Scenic Film Festival to air

HUNTSVILLE – The fourth annual Huntsville screening of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival will be presented on Jan. 20.
The festival venue will be Straight to Ale at its Campus 805 location in Huntsville, 2610 Clinton Ave W. The Alabama Rivers Alliance, Energy Alabama, Flint River Conservation Association and Tennessee Riverkeeper will host the event.
“The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a great opportunity to learn more about issues our environment faces across the country, as well as right here in our own backyards,” Cindy Lowry said. Lowry works as executive director of Alabama Rivers Alliance.
“There are also several films that simply celebrate our beautiful natural resources,” Lowry said. “The festival will showcase short documentaries and films from the largest environmental film festival in the world, as well as films highlighting and exploring local issues.”
Alabama Rivers Alliance is a statewide network of groups working to protect and restore all of Alabama’s water resources through building partnerships, empowering citizens, and advocating for sound water policy and its enforcement.
The centerpiece of Alabama’s Wild & Scenic program is a curated selection of award-winning films from the national Wild & Scenic Film Festival. The event will also feature three films in the Southern Exposure film series from the Southern Environmental Law Center. This series highlights Alabama’s natural resources and the environmental issues that impact all residents.
“For four years now, it has been a highlight to bring these films to Huntsville and help spur conversation and action,” Lowry said. “The films are always inspiring and encourage all of us to be good stewards of our state’s environment in an entertaining and engaging way.”
In addition to the film program, the event will also feature local experts in sustainability, river protection and advocacy for environmental issues across the state. Guests will enjoy a chance at door prizes and the opportunity to enjoy local beer.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The films will start at 6:15 p.m.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students, military personnel and senior citizens. A ticket includes a one-year membership to the Alabama Rivers Alliance and door prize chances.
