MADISON – The overall mood showed excitement when attended the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

“We began discussing a trip after the election with my dad, Elbert Peters, who was a State of Alabama elector. We also attended the ceremony in Montgomery on Dec. 19 when Alabama’s nine electors cast their vote,” Carol said.

The Wisdoms wanted to see history in the making. “With this election cycle being one of the most controversial in history and Trump’s surprising win, we knew we would make great memories, which we certainly did,” she said.

The Wisdoms rode the Metro from Silver Springs, Md. to Capitol Hill. “The Metro was filled with Trump supporters from all over. Everyone was so excited. People asked us questions” about Alabama politics, Carol said.

They left Silver Springs around 7 a.m. and were seated at 9 a.m. In a security screening, they were checked from head to toe. The Wisdoms watched all living, past U.S. presidents arrive (except for President George and Barbara Bush).

“It was great to see the dignity and respect at the ceremony,” Carol said. “It was especially comforting to hear prayers led by people like Reverend Graham and to hear scripture passages read aloud. We live in the greatest country in the world,” Carol said.

After the ceremony, they visited Congressman Robert Aderholt’s office and then attended the Freedom Ball, after about a two-hour security check. They met interesting people from North Carolina, Indiana and Maryland. The evening’s highlight was the Trumps’ arrival.

During their three-day visit, the Wisdoms stayed with friends on a farm in Ijamsville, Md., while other Wisdom relatives lodged in Silver Springs. On Jan. 21, the Wisdoms toured the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Mo Brooks and wife Martha. “We sat in the House Chamber … and looked at senators’ desks and the vice-president’s office,” Carol said.

Having political aspirations himself, their son David Wisdom is a second-year law student at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. David graduated from Bob Jones High School and Auburn University.

At Bob Jones, David served as a Student Council Senator. At Auburn, he was a Student Government Association Senator, School of Business President and lobby group president. In 2016, he ran as a delegate for Marco Rubio and attended the Republican National Convention as a Page from Alabama.

Currently, David is Student Bar Association Treasurer, active in Republican clubs in Birmingham and a law clerk for a local attorney.

“David says lots of folks are interested in politics right now — and for good reason,” Carol said.

Carol works as a pharmacist at Kroger in Madison. Brian, an electrical engineer, works for Siemens Corporation. The family has lived in Madison for 20 years.

Their daughter, Caroline Wisdom Mayfield, graduated from Auburn University School of Nursing in 2016. She and husband Tanner Mayfield, also a Bob Jones graduate, live in Auburn where she is a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse and he attends Auburn.
