MADISON – Before the Feb. 13 meeting of City Council, Madison Mayor Paul Finley met with local Girl Scouts and presented a city proclamation declaring Feb. 24-26 as “National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend” in Madison.

A passage from the proclamation reads, “Whereas, Girl Scouts have emerged as the preeminent organization for developing leadership skills in girls … Whereas, girls throughout the country sell over 200 million cookie packages a year to more than 50 million cookie customers, and, in the process, build a lifetime of skills and confidence …”

“… I, Paul Finley, Mayor of the City of Madison, do hereby proclaim the weekend of February 24-26, 2017 as ‘National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend’ in the City of Madison, Alabama.”

In addition to door-to-door sale, Madison Girl Scouts have been operating booths at scores of businesses across Madison. These businesses include Kroger, Walmart, convenience stores, pizza stores, fast food restaurants, home improvement stores and pharmacies.
