Salvation Army Thrift Store to close

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Madison will close on March 31. This building formerly housed the Madison Post Office. CONTRIBUTED

MADISON – The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 385 Hughes Road in Madison will close on March 31.

“The Salvation Army of Huntsville/Madison County regretfully announces the closing of its Madison store,” community relations coordinator Pamela Donald stated in an announcement on March 3.

“The Salvation Army staff is grateful for the support and patronage of Madison residents over the years. The staff considers serving the community a privilege and honor,” Donald said.

According to Donald, the organization’s decision to close the Madison store was not made lightly. After much review, the result came by voluntary vote of the Army’s local Advisory Board.

“The store wasn’t generating the sales needed to sustain store operations,” Major Bret McElroy, Corps Officer, said. “Being the best stewards possible with community charitable funds is important to us.”

As a form of appreciation to shoppers, the thrift store will run closing sales through March or until all merchandise is gone. To access sale notices during the month, visit Facebook/The-Salvation-Army-Family-Store-in-Huntsville.

The store closing doesn’t mean The Salvation Army’s efforts in the City of Madison will end. The community will continue to have access to much-needed emergency social services and adult rehabilitation through The Salvation Army, Donald said.

Throughout the years, “Salvation Army family stores, loyal customers and donors have made a huge impact in Madison County by providing an affordable resource for clothing and household items to families in need,” Donald said. Proceeds from sales at family stores help fund The Salvation Army emergency shelter, soup kitchen, rehabilitation program and other services.

Customers and donors can continue to shop and drop donations at The Salvation Army Family Store in Huntsville at 2112 Oakwood Ave. To arrange for donation pickup, call 256-533-5838.

The Salvation Army has served Madison County for more than 60 years. The organization is prepared to meet the needs of the community by providing relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and opportunities for underprivileged children.
