Fire chief interviews open to public

Madison City Council will interview three finalists for fire chief on March 25. The public can attend. CONTRIBUTED

MADISON – On March 25, the public can attend interviews of three finalists for Fire Chief of Madison Fire & Rescue Department.

After a team meeting and breakfast at 7:45 a.m., Madison City Council will start the first interview at 8:30 a.m. in Council Chambers of Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Road.

To avoid distraction, doors to Council Chambers will be closed when an interview starts. For each interview, visitors can enter only at the beginning and exit only at the conclusion. The public will not be allowed to ask questions.

The interview schedule will include three finalists:

* Brandy Williams — 8:30 a.m.

* David Bailey — 9:30 a.m.

* Andy Woody — 10:30 a.m.

The work session will end at 11:30 a.m. with wrap-up comments and lunch.

Chief Brandy Williams currently is Acting Fire Chief for City of Madison and has worked in the department since 1998. Williams also has served as firefighter, driver, captain and deputy chief. She has worked at the chief level (deputy chief to acting chief) for one year and as captain six years.

Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in fire administration and an associate’s degree in health/physical education. Williams has the designation of ‘Chief Fire Officer’ with the Center for Public Safety Excellence and is enrolled in the four-year executive fire officer program with National Fire Academy.

Chief David Bailey currently is Fire Chief/Fire Marshal for Harriman, Tenn. an 18-member department. He worked 36 years with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS in Virginia with 485 personnel as dispatcher, firefighter, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, deputy director of training and safety, administrative officer and battalion chief 10 years.

Also in Virginia, Bailey worked with Goodwill Industries and Powhatan County Emergency Management. He has worked at chief level (battalion chief to fire chief) about 11 years and as sergeant to captain about 10 years.

Bailey received a bachelor’s degree in safety and risk administration, master’s degree in public administration and completed Executive Fire Officer Program.

Robert ‘Andy’ Woody is Training Chief for Searcy, Ark. with 59 employees. Previously, he worked 18 years with Springfield, Mo. Fire Department with 220 personnel, serving as firefighter, training captain, shift captain, battalion chief and assistant fire chief. Woody has worked at chief level (battalion chief to assistant chief) about 7.5 years and as captain about 9.5 years.

Woody holds a bachelor’s degree in business management, master’s degree in public government/administrative studies and an associate’s in fire science technology. He achieved status as Chief Fire Officer and Chief Training Officer with Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is in his final year with four-year executive fire officer program with National Fire Academy.
