School, utilities boards have openings

MADISON – This spring, Madison City Council will appoint individuals to fill two important board positions for the city school district and the water/wastewater utility department.

The Council is seeking applications from interested residents for both board openings. Application deadline for both positions has been extended until April 17.

The position with Madison Board of Education has a five-year term. School board members set policy and direction for the Madison City Schools district. Dr. Terri Johnson has decided not to re-apply for her position with the board.

Madison Board of Education conducts regular meetings on the first and third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. in the board room of MCS Central Office at 211 Celtic Drive.

Finalists will be selected from applications that are submitted through the Madison City Clerk’s office. Then, City Council will hold interviews with the finalists to select the appointee, and the Council will vote on the candidate at its next regular meeting.

In another opening, Madison Utilities has a seat on its board. This board oversees the operations and approves expenditures of the public water and wastewater utility that serves Madison. Madison Utilities is not a city department.

Madison Utilities Board of Directors holds regular meetings are the first and third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the utility office at 101 Ray Sanderson Drive. This new appointment will serve the remaining term of a vacated position; reappointment for the slot will open on Sept. 1, 2018.

City Council members will evaluate submitted applications to Madison Utilities. Then, Madison City Council will nominate a new appointee and subsequently vote on their choice during their next scheduled meeting.
