Dublin Park to host Easter egg hunts

MADISON – With Easter Sunday approaching on April 16, children can enjoy a fun-filled tradition at any one of three different Easter egg hunts in the city.

Dublin Park will host the events, starting with the “Glow in the Dark/Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt” on April 14 for boys and girls from six to 12 years old. Gates will open to Dublin’s Soccer Field #1 for the hunt at 7 p.m.

Children will start hunting eggs at 7:30 p.m. The flashlight hunt will close at 8 p.m. To heighten the atmosphere, the Easter Bunny will attend and temporarily hold his hopping to pose for photographs with the youngsters.

“For the annual ‘Glow in the Dark/Flashlight Egg Hunt,’ children will need to bring a flashlight or headlamp and a basket or container to collect and keep their eggs. Parents will be allowed inside the gates, but we do ask that you refrain from entering the field when the hunt starts,” Gayle Milam said. Milam is Event and Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Madison.

Then on April 15, the Easter Eggstravaganza, a more traditional, daytime Easter egg hunt, will be held at Dublin from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This hunt will offer more than 30,000 candy- or toy-filled eggs, prize eggs and the Easter Bunny.

Only handicap parking will be open at Dublin. Shuttle buses will transport families from the south parking lot at Bob Jones High School, starting at 9 a.m. Gates to Dublin’s Soccer Field #1 will open at 9:30, and the hunt will start at 10 a.m.

After the Eggstravaganza, shuttle service will resume service to return guests from Dublin Park to Bob Jones’ campus.

Also on April 15, the Special Needs Easter Eggstravaganza will open with check-in and registration at 1:30 p.m. The egg hunt will start at 2 p.m. with photos with the Easter Bunny, games, refreshments and activities from 2:30 to 4 p.m. To pre-register, visit mc@autism-alabama.org.

The City of Madison, Madison Adaptive Sports Program and Madison City Disability Advocacy Board are collaborating for this event.

“Special Needs Easter Eggstravaganza will be held, regardless of weather. In case of rain, organizers will move activities indoors. The event is open to anyone from the special-needs population,” Milam said.
