Pints and Poets to boost library

MADISON – Madison Public Library is teaming up with Rocket Republic Brewing Company for an evening of poetry, food, crafts and beer at Pints and Poets night.

The event on April 27 opens at 6 p.m. at Rocket Republic, 289 Production Ave. in Madison. “Come out for an evening celebrating written verse at Celebrate National Poetry Month as the bards of yesteryear did — at your local bar,” Laura McPhail said. McPhail is Director of Public Relations for Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

At Pints and Poets, poets Lana Austin, Virginia Gilbert, Jessica Temple, Melissa Thornton, and Anna Lowe Weber will read their original poetry.

“We’re excited to have something a bit more than your average ‘coffee house’-style poetry event,” Anne Wood. Wood works as Adult Programs Coordinator at Madison Public Library.

“Rocket Republic has been a wonderful partner for many other unique events benefitting the library, and we’re happy to team up with them again,” Wood said.

Pints and Poets will feature great local beers, live poetry readings, an open mic, food from 306 BBQ’s food truck and some bookishly fun crafts, McPhail said.

Pints and Poets also serves as a tribute to National Poetry Month. Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month has grown into the largest literary celebration in the world.

No tickets or reservations are necessary for Pints and Poets. For more information, contact Wood at awood@hmcpl.org.

Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is a nonprofit 12-branch system that serves all of Madison County. The library system also provides outreach services, a BookMobile and BookBike, online services, training, an extensive digital collection, public-use computers, free Wi-Fi and meeting spaces.
