King is Central Office’s choice for outstanding staffer

MADISON – Her co-workers at Central Office have elected LaTisha King as their Staff Member of the Year.

“I started my current position, executive assistant to the superintendent and school board, at Central Office in 2000,” King said. “Prior to my current position, I was the bookkeeper at Heritage Elementary School from 1999 to 2000 and executive assistant for the chief juvenile probation officer (Madison County Commission, 1994-1999).”

King moved to the Madison area in 1987 to attend college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration (management) at Alabama A&M University.

“I obtained a BACHELOR’S degree and a BACHELOR at Alabama A&M,” King said about meeting future husband Alvin King.

“The teacher who had a positive impact on my life was Mr. Joseph, a seventh-grade trigonometry teacher. He taught the subject in a way that made you thirst for more,” King said. “He showed a genuine interest in educating students all with encouragement, compassion and concern.”

“Mr. Joseph was not boring but challenged students to excel. He also taught me that students do not care how you know until they know how much you care,” King said. “Caring makes a huge difference. I knew he cared!”

At Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church, she is a teacher for Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed or AWANA and a member of the Inspirational Choir. King is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and National Education Association and past board member of Alabama Association of School Office Personnel.

King represents District Nine on the State Board of Directors for the Alabama Association of Administrative Assistants. She serves as Company Coordinator for Madison City Schools with United Way of Madison County.

Alvin King works in sales for Frito Lay. LaTisha and Alvin’s daughter, Allysa King, is a senior at Auburn University and is majoring in biochemistry.

“I love singing, baking, decorating, playing trivia games and, most importantly, helping to make a positive difference in our community,” LaTisha said.
