City hosts 4th of July Celebration at Dublin

MADISON – Get ready to wave Old Glory and join your neighbors for patriotic fun at the 2017 Stars and Stripes Forever July 4th Celebration at Dublin Park.

The City of Madison sponsors the extravaganza, which includes a fireworks show at approximately 9 p.m. The celebration will open at 2 p.m. with inflatable amusements lined around soccer field no. 1.

“Adults and children of all ages can enjoy games, activities and even try to find their way through the 70-foot obstacle course. When you get too hot, take a splash down the 62-foot water slide or sit underneath the giant tent in the shade,” Gayle Milam said. Milam is Event and Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Madison.

WZDX, 104.3 WZYP, 94.1 WHRP and Nash Icon 93.3 are providing games and activities until 7 p.m.

The youngsters can have a face-painting session. Civic groups and businesses will set up exhibits and demonstrations to explain their services and merchandise. Madison City Volleyball, AYSO Region 498 will volunteer for games and exhibitions of volleyball and soccer.

The Stars and Stripes Forever celebration will include live entertainment by local vocal and instrumental musicians. Singer-songwriter Cheryl Llewelyn will share her talents. Madison City Community Orchestra will play exciting tunes with its full range of string, brass and woodwind instrumentation. The bands CRUZE and Max also are on the schedule.

Ever-popular food trucks and other vendors will offer concessions. To-date, Little Red Lunchbox, Ice Works Shaved Ice, The Smokin’ Box, Piper and Leaf, Brain Freeze Ice Cream, Famous Joe’s Pizza, Wilma’s on Wheels and Handel’s Ice Cream plan to attend.

All guests must park for the event at Bob Jones High School, 650 Hughes Road. The City of Madison will provide shuttle service to and from Dublin Park. Shuttles will start running at 1:45 p.m., and the last pick-up will be 8:45 p.m.

“Following the event, the shuttles will take you back to Bob Jones. Handicap parking only will be allowed at Dublin Park,” Milam said.
