Master Gardeners to host Santa gourd workshop

HUNTSVILLE – Master Gardeners of North Alabama will sponsor a painting workshop for Santa gourds on Nov. 14.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Madison County Extension Office, 819 Cook Ave. in Huntsville.

Retired teacher Neva Davis will teach this workshop. Davis serves as co-leader of Huntsville Gourd Patch, affiliated with Alabama Gourd Society. She is a member of American Gourd Society and presently is serving as Past President on the Alabama Gourd Society Board.

“Gourds are Neva’s favorite works of art,” Master Gardener publicist Sue Khoury said. Davis teaches classes at her own gourd patch, around Huntsville and at shows with Alabama Gourd Society. She also has taught at Cherokee Gourd Gathering for the last two years.

“Bring your creativity, and we’ll supply all the materials and training needed to create your very own Santa gourd,” Khoury said. “We can only accommodate 15 participants so sign up now.”

Cost is $20 per person and includes all supplies.
