Jimmy Parcus sees ‘high cotton’ shift to ‘high tech’
MADISON – Jimmy L. Parcus has a distinction that few people can claim. He was born and raised in Madison.
Parcus has worked as a firefighter with Madison Fire and Rescue Department for 24 years. “I’m currently a driver at Station 1 on Mill Road. Being a driver, my number one responsibility is to get firefighter personnel to the emergency scene safely,” he said.
“I now live in Harvest, but I’m part of this town and have seen many changes. I do love this town,” he said.
For Parcus, Madison has always been a special place. “Although much has changed, Madison still has a small-town feel. There are good reasons why so many people have moved here to call Madison their home: best school system, many churches, parks and playgrounds and just a really good family community.”
“From ‘high cotton’ to ‘high tech,’ Madison is a city on the move. So many old friends and so many new friends,” Parcus said.
He was born to James and Patricia Crutcher Parcus in 1956 at Huntsville Hospital. His family lived on Hughes Road across from the current Discovery Middle School. His sisters are Martie, Lisa and Nicki, all graduates of Bob Jones High school. He attended Madison Elementary School and graduated at Randolph High School in Huntsville in 1974.
“I have been married to Patty Walker Parcus for 39 years. Patty also grew up in Madison and graduated from Bob Jones. We have three daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson and one on the way,” he said.
In spare time, Parcus helps with the newly formed Madison History Association. “I primarily work in public relations for the association. We are a group dedicated to preserving Madison, Alabama history, leaving our legacy and heritage for future generations,” he said.
Parcus is a Master Mason at Lunar Masonic Lodge in Madison. “Throughout the year, the Masons do fundraisers and charitable work in the community. Our fundraisers for local education scholarships are most notable.”
“I’m an old rock ‘n roller with country roots,” Parcus said. “I really like southern rock, the blues and some jazz and old-time gospel music.” His favorite Madison eateries are La Placita and Applebee’s.”
