Lauryn Hall Wins Again

BIRMINGHAM- Sparkman High senior Lauryn Hall won her second consecutive state championship at the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Indoor Track and Field Championships. She won the finals with a time of 7.66-seconds a mere 1/100 of a second off her Class 7A record setting time set in day one of the competition’s prelims and tying the state record she set a year ago.

“I feel this is a great accomplishment and it’s a great feeling to be state champion again,” said Hall.

The superb talented Hall who also is a senior member of the Sparkman’s cheer squad was named the school’s girls winner of the 2017 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. She signed an athletic scholarship with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels during early signing period and is looking forward to attending college in the fall.

Hall is still excited about her senior year at Sparkman and is already looking to the outdoor track season, which kicks off next week. “I’m very excited as I feel I’ve done some great stuff here at Sparkman and I hope to do as well in college,” added Hall.

As a sophomore, Hall won the state title in the 100-meter dash. In 2017, she took home gold medals in the 60-meter and 200-meter runs and was part of the Senators’ 4×100 relay squad. Add her win in the 60-meter at the indoor meet and you have a five-time gold medal winner who knows she still has a chance to add some hardware to her already heavy medal count.

“I’ve done my best, but there are always room for improvement,” said Hall.

The daughter of Lamar and Rhonda Hall, the super athlete is also a member of the local Debutant Society and does an array of community service away from school. Her duties as senior cheerleader for the Senators really cranks up this week as Sparkman is the host for both boys and girls area tournaments with both squads ranked among the top teams in Alabama. Hall will attend school all day adding to her already high 4.3 grade point average, go through her daily track workouts after school and then quickly change into her cheer uniform for what could be a long run into the post-season playoffs.
